Denver, CO – JROTC instructors from across the State of Colorado convened at Abraham Lincoln High School to undergo specialized training to become Basic Archery Instructors (BAI). This initiative marks a significant step in expanding archery training within JROTC programs, providing cadets with opportunities to develop discipline, focus, and marksmanship skills in a structured environment.
Among the Instructors providing the training were Lincoln High School’s own JROTC Instructor, First Sergeant Lewis, and First Sergeant Paul Mahoney, who serves as the Director of Military Science/JROTC for Denver Public Schools. This was the first class conducted to train JROTC instructors in Colorado. Their involvement highlights the Districts dedication to enhancing extracurricular opportunities for students through leadership and skill-building activities.
“This certification ensures that our instructors are prepared to introduce cadets to the fundamentals of archery in a safe and structured manner,” said First Sergeant Mahoney. “We are excited to see how this program enhances our JROTC training and provides students with new and valuable skills.”
The Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) Certification program equips instructors with the necessary skills to safely introduce archery to students, covering essential topics such as range safety, equipment maintenance, and shooting techniques. With this certification, JROTC instructors can integrate archery into their training curriculum, offering cadets an additional avenue for personal growth and competition.
Abraham Lincoln High School’s Archery Program is one of the top archery programs in the State of Colorado, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Led by JROTC Instructor, First Sergeant Lewis, the program fosters inclusivity, teamwork, and excellence in the sport. This April, Lancer Archery will proudly represent Southwest Denver at The NASP® Western National Tournament in Utah.
As more JROTC programs incorporate archery into their curriculum, the training at Abraham Lincoln High School serves as a model for expanding student engagement in precision sports. The initiative reflects a broader effort to diversify the skill sets available to cadets, fostering both personal development and leadership skills in a unique and engaging way.
